WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE

The Women's Leadership Initiative is a program designed to leverage the power of local women to address issues that impact our community. WLI networking events bring together women from local business, government, education, healthcare and other community organizations.

Springing Into Action!
The WLI's 2004 Spring Networking Night was a huge success - attracting more than 70 attendees. The event helped launch the WLI's new Mentoring Program that matches students from Union County College's Women's Studies Program with volunteer mentors to better prepare them for professional work environments.

Hispanic Leadership Advisory Council

Did You Know...
Hispanic-Americans make up 49% of Elizabeth's population and 25% of Plainfield's population.

United Way's HLAC is working to address the specific needs of this fast-growing and often underserved population.  The HLAC has brought together Union County College, Literacy Volunteers of America and several of United Way's certified agencies to offer Hispanic-American students scholarships in exchange for working in a social service agency.  The HLAC is also actively promoting United Way's new 2-1-1 helpline within Hispanic communities to raise awareness about social service programs in our area.

To get involved in the HLAC, please call Milagros Collazo at (908) 353-7171 ext. 112.
