United Way of Greater Union County’s African American Leadership Initiative to Host “Making a Mark” Black History Month Event
United Way of Greater Union County’s African American Leadership Initiative (AALI) will host their Signature Event “Making a Mark” on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm, at Kean University (Little Theater) 1000 Morris Avenue, Union. The event will celebrate the achievements, leadership and contributions of African-Americans in the community.
This year’s presentation, A Journey of Black Dance, will feature students from Plainfield High School’s Dance Ensemble with special appearances by the Taylor Dance Company and The New Jersey Orators. The program will highlight Black dance starting from its foundation of African dance and take audience members on the journey through history highlighting other forms of dance including Tap, Jive/Swing, Hip Hop and more.
AALI’s mission is to mobilize the caring power of the African American community to improve African American lives in Union County. The purpose of the event is to enhance awareness of AALI and gather together community-minded individuals in hope of inspiring them to become members and join the effort towards addressing community needs.
