United Way Season of Caring Hits Record Numbers

Every year, United Way of Greater Union County mobilizes volunteers and community partners to lend a helping hand and support those in need during its “Season of Caring”.  This year, nearly thirty Union County companies held donation drives to help the underserved and dozens of volunteers donated their time for the greater good.

“Season of Caring promotes the spirit and value of volunteerism, increases the awareness of local human service agencies, and demonstrates what people working together for the community’s good can accomplish,” said James W. Horne Jr., President & CEO of United Way of Greater Union County.

This year’s successful projects included:
• The Holiday Wishes toy drive which provided holiday gifts to children from disadvantaged households valued at over $13,600.

• Other food and toy drives that brought in donations valued at over $3,200.

• Clothing drives valued at over $1,000.

United Way community partners including: NuStar Energy, Sovereign Bank, Lori Schneider Realty, Hilltop Bank, Freeport McMorran, and Willis donated their time, talent and resources to give back to the community.

This year’s Season of Caring received overwhelming support specifically from three Union County corporations: Infineum USA L.P., Lerner David, and Linde North America LLC. Bearing an extraordinary load of gifts, all three companies met the holiday wishes for over 500 children.

“We are grateful for the overwhelming support and generosity from our partners and look forward to working with them all again next year,” said Mr. Horne.  “We are truly lucky to have such caring hearts in our community. United Way thanks all of our supporters for thinking of others this holiday season.”

Plainfield Family Success Center, a United Way partner agency and Holiday Wishes recipient said, “We truly appreciate the generosity and thoughtfulness of United Way and their corporate partners. The gifts were wonderful and made the holiday season brighter for the many families we serve.”

United Way of Greater Union County’s Season of Caring was established to encourage businesses and individuals to help those in need during the holiday season and volunteer their services at local non-profit organizations.  From September to December, volunteers contribute their time, talent and ideas to meaningful community service projects all across Union County.
