Planning Sessions Underway For 15th Annual Celebration of Womanhood Conference

Good News!! For the 6th consecutive year, United Way of Greater Union County (UWGUC) is the recipient of the 2014-2015 Annual Celebration of Womanhood Grant from the NJ Governor’s Juvenile Justice and Delinquency (JJDP) Committee, administered by the NJ Juvenile Justice Commission.
In preparation for the conference, UWGUC, local high schools and partner agencies, have collectively gathered over 40 young girls between the ages of 13-17 to assist in planning, building and executing the conference, they will ultimately participate as Junior Female Ambassador’s (JFA’s).
They are aptly named “Ambassadors” because of the work involved in planning the conference.  During the pre-conference planning sessions, the JFA’s put their leadership skills to work and participate in a series of interactive workshops.  The sessions are designed to empower the girls to learn how to select conference topics and plan the entire event. Lessons encompass everything from working with budgets to researching topics and nominating the appropriate speakers for the various workshops.
Two planning meetings occurred in March and more are scheduled for April 11th and 18th and May 9th and 23rd.
The Celebration of Womanhood Conference is scheduled for Saturday May 30, 2015 at the Renaissance Newark Airport hotel.
