Tutoring Program in Linden provides much need support to the youth in the community

There is an increasing demand for volunteer tutors during the after school hours of 2 PM to 5 PM. These volunteers help mentor the youth and provide support to help the students achieve their full potential.

UWGUC has partnered with the Family Community Development Corporation, (Family CDC), to enhance the tutoring and afterschool program at Elementary School No. 2 in Linden, NJ. Family CDC is dedicated to developing human potential and promoting self-sufficiency through programs designed to improve the social, economic, health and educational status of the community in a culturally sensitive environment. Currently there are 32 students serviced by this tutoring program between 2nd and 5th grade.

Other partners in this program include Linden Board of Education, the Staples Foundation, Family Christian Church, and Union County Division of Social Services. Together, these partners have focused on providing structure to class interaction in a controlled setting, techniques on how to study, comprehension by individual attention to the students enrolled in this program. Although still facing high demands in students that need support, this program provides a great opportunity for volunteers looking to help build student leaders in the community. If you are interested in volunteer for this program please contact the Family CDC at 908-374-6770.
