Rahway Family Success Center Services 100 families and individuals in just two months

Senator Cory Booker embraces a mother and son at the Rahway Family Success Center Grand Opening this past December.

The Rahway Family Success Center (FSC) opened its doors in December of 2015 and has already serviced 100 families in the first two months. Support services included: energy and utility assistance, rental assistance, childcare assistance, food stamps and Medicaid referrals, résumé building and job search workshops. Rahway FSC also provided an open computer lab for community use and held a Holiday Haircuts for Kids event in December. Rahway FSC launched a successful Parent Advisory Council (PAC) with 15 members in attendance per meeting. The PAC focuses on leveraging resources needed to keep the community thriving and successful. UWGUC would like to send these parent volunteers a special thank you for their time and effort in joining the PAC.

The Rahway FSC is the perfect example of what a Family Success Center can do for a community. Family Success Centers (FSCs) are community-based family centered neighborhood gathering places where any community resident can go for family support, information and services. The purpose of an FSC is to enrich the lives of children and adults by making families and neighborhoods stronger.  A Parent Advisory Council (PAC) that provides pertinent input and feedback on the services and the way they are delivered to the community supports each FSC. New participants are always welcomed at each FSC.

United Way of Greater Union County is an expert in collaborating with community organizations, stakeholders and leaders and is working to develop and fund more Family Success Centers throughout Union County. The Rahway Family Success Center is funded by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and is part of UWGUC’s Focus on Families Initiative, which aims to develop programs that will help empower the community as a whole in Union County.
