Why participate in our workplace campaigns?

Here at United Way of Greater Union County, our workplace campaigns are about bringing people in local workplaces together to tackle our community’s most difficult issues in the areas of education, financial stability and health. Whether you’re a small business, major corporation or a nonprofit, we offer a simple and effective ways for your employees to support the community and causes they believe in. Below are some of the businesses/organizations who are currently in campaign season!

CR Bard’s Bard-Be-Que
Located in Murray Hill, NJ, C.R. Bard Inc., is the leading multinational developer, manufacturer, and marketer of innovative, life-enhancing medical technologies in the fields of vascular, urology, oncology, and surgical specialties global headquarters. C.R. Bard Inc. heated thing up at their annual “Bard-be-que.” The BBQ is held annually to support United Way of Greater Union County. Bard employees came together and enjoyed a delicious, free BBQ lunch and had tons of fun on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon. Employees were able to purchase tickets to dunk their colleagues at the Dunk Tank Station or become the proud owners of a personalized caricature drawing, with all proceeds benefiting UWGUC. The event offered free games such as basketball shoot, corn hole beanbag toss and ladder ball which allowed everyone to enjoy some healthy competition with their co-workers. This year at the Annual Bard-Be-Que, they raised $927, a great start to their payroll deduction campaign.
Costco Wholesale Kicks off Campaign!
Costco Wholesale, the second largest retailer in the United States, kicked off their campaign season this month in efforts to maintain a charitable workplace giving program supporting organizations that benefit children, education and health, and human services.  Costco developed express pledging made accessible on all warehouse registers. Employees simply swipe their membership cards and can make donations to any qualified charitable organization in $5 increments. In addition, both Costco locations in North Plainfield and Union have opened their doors for United Way of Greater Union County tabling events for the month of October!

Enterprise Rent-A-Car Reaches $14,000 on first day of Campaign!
Enterprise Rent-A-Car has truly hit the ground running this year. Erica Smutko, Regional Human Resource Manager, and her team began their donor outreach two weeks prior to their campaign through a “Coloring Contest,” where employees and their children could take part in the campaign activities. Upon their campaign launch on October 1st, Enterprise raised over $14,000 in just the first day! Special thank you to the campaign team at Enterprise for their hard work and persistence in spreading the word and reaching out to their employees one by one. Enterprise has already hit $21,000 in employee donations within its first week of campaign and looks forward to reaching their goal by October 31st when their campaign ends.

Comcast hosts BBQ for Tech Operations Team in Union!
Comcast held an appreciation BBQ on October 1st for their Technical Operations Team in Union, NJ. The event also served as a soft launch to their United Way Campaign, which kicks off October 12th to the 23rd. Over 100 employees attended this event where raffle prizes were made available in order to raise special event dollars for United Way. The event raised $480 for United Way and is sure to be the beginning of a very successful campaign year.

Nustar Energy wraps up campaign
Nustar Energy in Linden wrapped up their 2015 Campaign raising over $25,000 for United Way of Greater Union County. Nustar is looking forward to creating more opportunities for employees to give through their workplace events and build more engagement between their employees and the community in the upcoming months.

Elizabethtown Gas Chili Cook-off was a huge success!
Elizabethtown Gas in Union, NJ had an excellent show out of participants and attendees to their first chili cook-off! Held during lunch hours at their Union Office, employees paid a fee to sample an array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian chili. This was a special event in addition to the company’s annual payroll deduction campaign. The winners of the contest were:  Jane James – Best Vegetarian and Nick Depoto – Best Meat Chili. A special thank you to Elizabethtown Gas for their support during United Way Campaigns and their creative strategies to increase employee participation. Over $2,000 was raised from the Chili Cook-off!
