Congratulations to Tahira N. Chambers, the newly appointed Director of United Way of Greater Union County Hillside Family Success Center located in Hillside, New Jersey.
As a long time resident of Hillside, Tahira has over 15 years of experience working with special needs children and their families. Prior to her appointment, Tahira was employed
with Innovative Educational Programs at Hillside Schools for over 12 years. During the early part of her career at Hillside Schools, Tahira served as an instructional/personal
assistant and as an advocate for families of the disabled community.
In more recent years, Tahira served as a Family Support assistant for the Arc of Union County Family Support Office. Serving in that capacity, she assisted and worked in
collaboration with the Family Support Administrator, Family Support Specialist, and Family Support coordinator with family and recreational programs as well as many other aspects
of the office. However, she continued to advocate for families and has a deep understanding of their needs.
In addition, Tahira currently serves as an Applied Behavior Analysis Therapist for Monmouth Behavioral, where she is an in-home Behavior therapist on a part-time basis. Tahira implements communication and behavior therapy for children with Autism.
Tahira states, “I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to bring my years of experience working with families to the community I live in. I am particularly dedicated to serving families who have members with disabilities.” Tahira continues, “My goal as the Hillside Family Success Center Director is to ensure the successful implementation of programs to meet the needs of the Hillside community and to strengthen ties with all stakeholders for the common good.”
Tahira is charged with ensuring that Hillside families are cared for while examining strengths and weaknesses of the community, and meeting challenges that undermine families in need. It is her goal to serve as a resource for families. Tahira is looking forward to bringing positive, helpful and effective trainings, programs, and successes into the community.
Tahira is the proud mother of one son Altece Crawford. She is a alumni of Franklin School of Cosmetology and Upsala College. In her spare time she enjoys designing clothes, reading, cooking, and helping people in need.
