United Way of Greater Union County Successfully Stuffed the Bus to Help Kids Prepare for School

The annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive, organized by the United Way of Greater Union County (UWGUC), was a resounding success, thanks to the generous contributions of donors and the tireless efforts of volunteers. This initiative, aimed at alleviating the financial burden of school supplies for families in need, made a significant impact on more than 500 residents in Greater Union County.

A Community Effort

The drive saw an outpouring of support from our angels and allies in the community, with donors providing backpacks filled with essential school supplies such as crayons, pens, composition books, and other back-to-school essentials. Several local businesses engaged their staff in the campaign and played a crucial role in the success of the drive including Amazon, Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook & Cooper law firm, Merck, Northfield Bank, REDCOM, Spencer Savings Bank, and Union County Savings Bank. Their contributions ensured that students in greater Union County started the school year with the supplies they need to succeed.

The Phi Eta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® donated 208 boxes of cereal and 336 quarts and pints of shelf-stable milk, ensuring children started their day with a nutritious meal. Atlantic Federal Credit Union contributed children’s books, adding an educational element to the giveaway. Together, we ensured that every child starts school with the supplies they need to focus on what truly matters—learning.

Distribution Day

On August 27, families in need visited the newly opened United Way of Greater Union County Success Center to select age-appropriate backpacks and supplies. Volunteers from various partners including Lindabury, Spencer Savings Bank, State Farm and The Phi Eta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® assisted in the distribution, making the event a true community effort.

A New Home for UWGUC

The new Success Center is a community-based resource hub offering vital services in utility/rental assistance, workforce development, health, education, and family empowerment.

Join Us in Celebrating

On Wednesday, September 18, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., UWGUC will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 219 Central Ave, Rahway, NJ. This event will celebrate the new home and the continued efforts to create lasting change in the community.
