More than 40 people attended and raised more than $3,000 in one afternoon.

While the event included unlimited appetizers and wine, participants were able to network and socialize. But more importantly, they were in an environment where these leaders were able to combine their ideas, services, businesses and connections that could help our local community.

"We are thankful for everyone that came and supported the event, especially our sponsors: Presenting Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ and our Gold sponsor- PSE&G and Rosie's Wine Bar for letting us host our event in their lovely restaurant," said Raven Moreno, UWGUC Development Manager. "It felt great to be back in the presence of others and raising money for women and children throughout Union County. We are looking forward to our next event!"

Women United is a national and local initiative of women philanthropists devoted to giving to the United Way and committed to fighting for the health, education, and income stability of women across the world.

Specifically for Union County, Women United focuses on improving family planning, the health of mothers before and after pregnancy and the health of infants and children.  In Union County, 26% of mothers do not receive prenatal care and the area performs significantly worse than most other New Jersey counties in infant mortality, low baby birth weight and teen birthrates.

Last year, 700 families received assistance with maternal or child services through UGWUC.

By joining Women United, participants are able to:

  • Network with like-minded philanthropic women
  • Engage in signature volunteer opportunities
  • Participate in meaningful volunteer, fundraising, and networking experiences
  • Leadership development opportunities by serving on event committees
  • Develop a deeper understanding of community issues
