United Way Launches Free Lead Remediation Program to Protect Families

United Way of Greater Union County is expanding efforts to protect children and families from the dangers of lead exposure in older homes across the region.

Through its Lead Remediation and Abatement Program, the organization is offering free services to eligible residents living in homes built before 1978, when lead-based paint was commonly used. Exposure to lead can pose serious health risks, particularly for young children, making prevention and early intervention a priority.

The program provides a full range of services at no cost to qualifying households, including lead testing, comprehensive home inspections, and professional remediation. These services are designed to identify hazards early and eliminate risks before they impact families.

Program leaders emphasize that awareness is key. Many residents may not realize their homes contain lead hazards, especially in aging housing stock common throughout Union County and surrounding communities.

By removing financial barriers, United Way aims to make homes safer while supporting long-term public health outcomes. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to strengthening community well-being through direct, practical support.

Residents and community partners are encouraged to share information about the program to help reach families who may benefit. Expanding access to these services plays a direct role in keeping neighborhoods safe and protecting future generations from preventable health risks.
