From Response to Recovery

COVID-19 arrived in March of 2020 and quickly devastated the Union County community. UWGUC immediately responded to the pandemic by establishing a  COVID-19 emergency fund that directly helped 400 families. We started weekly food distributions across the county, and established virtual services and resources for our community. The need for assistance grew with each month. By June 2020 the data showed:

  • 3,100 evictions and 1,000 food stamp applications were filed

  • Unemployment hit 17% and food insecurity rate reached 13%

We are a long way from full recovery so our work continues. Today, there are over 100,000 households in Union County with at least one member who is still unemployed. While some residents are returning to their jobs, many are only working part time, and struggling to support their families.  Many of these families are not eligible for financial assistance programs.

United Way of Greater Union County is committed to the recovery of our community, and we are asking for your help to create stronger and more resilient neighborhoods. With your support, we hope to accomplish the following in 2021:

  • Serve 800 Union County families with rental/utility assistance

  • Expand our food distributions, benefitting over 1,000 families and senior citizens a week

  • Impact 5,000 residents with programming promoting family stablility, health, and education

We can only accomplish this with the help of loyal donors like yourself. I want to thank you for your previous support and hope we can count on your generosity again. Your gift allows us to serve local communities and ensures all families and children have opportunities to succeed. I also invite you to visit our website, (*need an easier url that leads directly to donate page), where you can give and keep up to date with our most recent programs and success stories.

Thank you again for your support, and remember to Live United!
