COVID-19 arrived in March of 2020 and quickly devastated the Union County community. UWGUC immediately responded to the pandemic by establishing a COVID-19 emergency fund that directly helped 400 families. We started weekly food distributions across the county, and established virtual services and resources for our community. The need for assistance grew with each month. By June 2020 the data showed:

3,100 evictions and 1,000 food stamp applications were filed

Unemployment hit 17% and food insecurity rate reached 13%
We are a long way from full recovery so our work continues. Today, there are over 100,000 households in Union County with at least one member who is still unemployed. While some residents are returning to their jobs, many are only working part time, and struggling to support their families. Many of these families are not eligible for financial assistance programs.
United Way of Greater Union County is committed to the recovery of our community, and we are asking for your help to create stronger and more resilient neighborhoods. With your support, we hope to accomplish the following in 2021:
